At Sweet Cecily’s we know how sometimes a skincare routine can feel like a bit of a drag, which is why we make sure that all our products can fit perfectly into your skincare routine with ease.
This blog will walk you through how each of our products can be used, from morning to evening. We’re going to start off with a shower as I prefer to shower on a morning, however if you prefer to shower on a night you can skip to Morning and add this part to the night section towards the bottom of this blog.
First up is our Citrus and Walnut Body Scrub which is one of my favourite products. Now, I personally prefer to apply the scrub before getting in the shower when my skin is dry just because I think the dry method helps me exfoliate more effectively in terms of knowing where I’ve already put the product and really scrubbing away the dead skin cells. However, if you prefer to have your skin a little bit damp, the scrub will still work, but do note that the friction level is different when the skin cells are moist so you may not get the full effect. Having wet skin will help to soften your skin and prime it for exfoliation, but like I always say, skincare can sometimes be all about trial and error, it’s whatever works best for your skin. If your skin is on the more sensitive side, then the wet before you scrub method is likely to be better for you. Simply take a generous amount of the product and using your hands, massage the product on to dry or wet skin and rinse off with warm water (Top Tip: Add a Loofah or Exfoliator mitt to the mix to give your body and even deeper clean). After you’ve exfoliated your skin, go about your regular shower routine as normal.
The best part about our Body Scrub is that while other companies were still using microbeads (little bits of plastic!) in their face and body scrubs, Sweet Cecily’s have used walnut shells from the very start! Sweet Cecily’s has always strongly believed that skincare should never be harmful to our plant. By using a natural alternative, our body scrub has never and will never, harm marine life when it is rinsed down the drain.
If you don’t exfoliate your skin and are wondering whether you should, check out our ‘Is Exfoliating Your Skin Necessary?’ blog to find out some benefits to exfoliating.
Once you’re out of the shower and your skin is feeling all smooth from the body scrub, give your skin a much-needed drink and lock in that moisture with a body butter. At Sweet Cecily’s we have 3 different scents of body butters: Coconut, Rose and Vanilla. Scoop out a small amount of product because a little does go a long way with our butters and spread it on your body, then massage the product using circular motions and leave yourself to dry for a few minutes. Once the butter has completely soaked into your skin, you can put your clothes on and enjoy the rest of your day with some silky-smooth arms and legs. Body Butters give your skin a range of benefits such as, reliving dryness, nourishing the skin, and even gives your skin a fresh lasting fragrance.
Dry Skin Tip: If you think your skin needs a more intense hydration routine, apply your body butter just before bed to allow it to soak up while you sleep.
The next step is for those out there that can end up with some serious dry skin throughout the year, so if you don’t think that’s you, feel free to skip!
Our Soothing Skin Cream is a serious holy grail of mine, and I will never stop raving about it to anyone who will listen to me. Unlike a body butter which you apply everywhere, this cream is for those with skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, where the targeted area is particularly dry. You can apply this throughout the day whenever you feel like your skin may start to feel sore or needs some added hydration.
After you’ve showered, it’s time to get your face ready for the day…
Once you’ve cleansed your face, the next step to any skincare routine is toner. We offer a choice of 2 different toners, a Rose Water Toner and a Witch Hazel Toner. Our Rose Water Toner is suitable for all skin types, but it especially works wonders if you have some patches of dry skin as it’s a natural hydrator, providing moisture and nourishment when you need it the most. In contrast, our Witch Hazel Toner is ideal for those with oily or acne prone skin as it’s an astringent, which simply means, they are skincare products that are used to remove excess oil from the skin. This toner can cut through excess sebum (an oily substance produced by our bodies sebaceous glands) and seal H2O into your pores. Moreover, it can help to remove any trace bacteria left on your face that may end up causing break outs or acne.
Our Toners come in a spray bottle which makes it a quick and easy step in your skincare routine, you can either apply it by giving it a quick spritz across your face or spraying some onto a cotton pad and gently swiping it on your face.
To round up your quick morning skincare routine, it’s always important to moisturise. At Sweet Cecily’s we produce a light, daily moisturiser, the Almond & Avocado Face Cream, which soaks into and nourishes your skin easily, leaving your face fresh and ready for the day. After you have cleansed and toned your face, with a dry face, apply a dot of our face cream to your forehead, nose, both cheeks and chin. Then, massage in circular motions until the cream has fully absorbed into your skin.
We recommend this product for anyone who may prefer fragrance free creams or anyone who has sensitive skin and wishes to avoid essential oils or parfum, which can cause irritation The refreshing scent that comes from our Almond & Avocado Face Cream comes from the natural fixed oils that we use.
Next up is the products that you can use multiple times (or just the once!) throughout the day…
Once you’ve finished your shower and morning skincare routine, the next part of this blog is just about what you can do as many times as you want throughout the day, when you feel like your hands and lips need a little bit of TLC.
Our Hand Creams come in 2 scents: Elderflower & Almond, and Sea Buckthorn Berry. My personal favourite is the Elderflower & Almond Hand Cream because I am into more light floral scents, whereas Beth and Dorrie prefer the Sea Buckthorn Berry as it is a bit more on the stronger and fruity side. Rich and nourishing, our hand creams are perfect for those whose hands need a little extra love. All you do is grab a small amount of the cream and place it into the palm of your hand, and gently rub the product in until it has soaked in fully.
Before working at Sweet Cecily’s, I never really took care of the skin on my face, never mind the skin on my hands, however, I can safely say that has changed now! Taking care of your hands is important because they are often the part of our body that gets most exposed to substances that can cause irritation or dryness. Our hands can really take a battering, even during a short window such as 24 hours! From washing up to the dryness caused by needing to wash your hands regularly to gardening or simply tapping away at your keyboard at work! Looking after your hands keeps the skin healthy and not only that, keeps your cuticles moisturised which means your nails get stronger and healthier! Can’t argue with that!
I think I can go as far to say that everyone I know carries at least one lip balm in their bag or pocket. For me personally, lip care is important because my lips can get dry really easily when it comes to being outside. I am always carrying one of our lip balms (usually a Cosmopolitan as that one is my fave scent!) in my pocket and applying it to my lips a few times a day to make sure they stay hydrated. Whether you’re just lazing around at home or are out and about, make sure to take a few seconds every few hours to apply one of our lip balms to keep your lips looking and feeling good.
Lastly, it’s time to get ready for bed…
(If you shower on a night, go back to the top of this blog and apply them products here!)
I’ve been there before, when I’ve had a busy day and I want nothing more than to pamper myself. First up on our night-time routine is our Clay Face Masks, which you can find in 3 different colours that are ideal for a different skin type: Green for Oily skin, Red for Normal skin, and Pink for Sensitive skin. With this step, we recommend you use a face mask no more than three times a week. Simply select the mask that is suited to your skin type, put two spoonful’s of powder into a clean container and add in an equal amount of water and mix until the clay forms a paste. Then, apply the mask with either your fingers or a face mask brush (if you have one!) and leave it to dry for 5-10 minutes. Once the mask has hardened, rinse your face using a face cloth and warm water.
Top Tip: Try swapping out water with our Rose Water Toner which is high in Vitamins A & C, for added benefits to the skin.
After you’ve cleaned off your face mask and your skin is feeling super smooth, it’s almost time for bed! Our last product of the day is our Sea Buckthorn and Frankincense Night Cream which is full of rejuvenating and nourishing fruits, butters, and seed extracts. A little goes a long way with this cream, so dot the cream on your forehead, nose, both cheeks and chin, then massage in circular motions until all the cream has absorbed into your skin.
And now, it’s time to get some beauty sleep and do it all again in the morning!
